A month has passed since i entered university and it feels like i've been here for months. So, what do i have in store for you readers this time?
Well we were shown a documentary this week. It's called Lo & Behold: Reveries of The Connected World directed by Werner Herzog.
In short, the documentary was about the pondering of existential facts on internet, robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) as well as an in depth of human life. In other words, It tells the story of how life was like before technology became advanced. It was mainly centered on a tragedy that did not happen too long ago where a woman's corpse's image was spread around even when her family did their very best to erase it from the existence of the internet. It definitely gave an insight to how us humans take action or/and act towards it.
The documentary was divided into multiple different sections or chapters. However, as time was not on our side, we were only able to watch the first three chapters of the documentary.
The first chapter was called; The Early Days. This chapter was centered around the early invention of internet. The person that was documented showed us the 'sacred location' where internet was first introduced to the world. It was no shocker with how the first internet server is still in one piece until today as it was made out of heavy duty material. It is said that the first word ever 'broadcasted' through the internet was 'Lo' as if it signified the words; Lo and Behold.. the internet.
In the second chapter; The Glory of The Net, It talked about how much technology and internet has truly evolved to this day compared to before. The theories of what people imagined the future to be such as flying cars, robots doing a human's job and such. As far as the future is now, flying cars have not been invented however science is constantly evolving and the idea of flying cars is not entirely impossible.
Finally, we were not able to complete this chapter of the documentary but it was called The Dark Side. This was where the family tragedy comes into play. This chapter talked about how cruel the internet or social media can be as the family had faced threatening and violent messages from netizens by spreading the image of their daughter's death. I personally feel that its scary how one wrong move on the internet can become a huge issue which could become life threatening.
This film has educated me so much on the internet in different aspects varying from its origins, its threats, its uses, theories and much more. I personally did not know about this documentary film and i hope a lot more people watch it as it is very informative and educational.
