XV. End of Trimester.

Image
It's the end of my first trimester which means.... it's time to conclude this blog. It really has been a wild yet interesting ride from to start to end. I learnt new things about art, how there's more than just drawing and painting. I learnt the history and varying types of most media forms. How some things would not be if a certain period of time did not happen (The Reformation for example.) Just like my subject's name itself, It made me appreciate Media more. This class has also given me a new perspective on art. It really is a pity that i will not be having this class next trimester. I think after all this, i won't stop appreciating media. I'll continue discovering new things thanks to this subject. To conclude this entry (or ending?), I want to thank my Media Appreciation lecturers for guiding us through the semester, for showing and teaching us new things every week including the films, documentaries, talks and video art. goodbye. a phrase used to...

XIV. New Media Trends.

Image
We are socially dependent on social media or mass communication in varying ways. For this entry, i'm going to talk about Twitter and how it provides jobs directly as well as indirectly and how it carries advertising essential to the selling of goods & services. For this task, we were told to talk about it in powerpoint form!

XIII. Video Art & Commercials.

We learnt about Video Art & Commercials this time and we were told to write a blog post about these two topics. Video Art So, What is it? Based on the lecture that i covered, It is a type of art which relies on moving pictures and comprises of audio and video data. An emphasis that people want to get out there is that; FILM IS NOT THE SAME AS VIDEO ART.  Video Art tends to not have dialogue or employ actors and are more straightforward compared to Films which have a plot and are more than just video. A few examples can be found on videoart.net . In my opinion, the conservation of Video Art is a great idea as it shows that this 'trend' has not died yet which is similar to film cameras where majority photographers are still using film cameras in order to revive and keep them alive. Every year, a festival called Video Art & Experimental Film Festival is held where filmmakers from anywhere in the world are able to create video art and would be nominated or shortl...

XII. Documentaries.

Image
What is this thing we call Documentaries? In general, It is a a movie or television OR programme that provides factual record or report. A different way of defining Documentaries said by Sheila Curran Bernard who is an Author of Documentary Storytelling is that it brings viewers into new worlds and experiences through the presentation of factual information about real people, places, and events generally -- but not always --  portrayed through the use of actual images and artifacts. Factuality alone does not define documentary films; it's what the filmmaker does with the facts. Documentaries tend to last as long as 2 hours or even 30 minutes at a minimum but considering how much time has changed, documentaries nowadays last about 10 minutes per clip. An obvious difference between films and documentaries are that films are not entirely about factual information. Films tend to be about fictional stories or they do not cover much information on a non-fictional story. Documentar...

XI. My predictions of Twitter for the future.

Image
If i was able to only pick one media application for the rest of my life, it would be Twitter. I admit, i'm an avid user of Twitter and i spend most of my (free but not so free) time. It makes me feel connected to the world especially during times where i'm stuck in my own cave home. Why do i like twitter so much? I am able to share my thoughts, update my current status to my friends on there. In addition to that, i am also able to discover artworks or discover new artists on the social networking site. Twitter has also brought me new friends (known as 'online friends') that i am now friends with for about 5 years now. Twitter also lets me be updated with my friends even though i am miles away from them. There is more to it but i will keep it this short for now. The current Twitter may be pretty cool and all but what if it could be even more cooler? I have a few predictions for Future Twitter up my sleeve and i am here to share it. One of the top pre...

X. Print and The Reformation in the 16th Century.

Image
What is The Reformation ? It was a part of the Renaissance. In short, The Reformation (also known as the Protestant Reformation) was the rupture from a Roman Catholic Church caused by Martin Luther and continued by several people. During the middle ages, not many people were literate. It was around this time during the Reformation that printing press was invented and allowed new ideas to be made as well as more scriptures of the Bible to be distributed. This allowed more people to read the Bible for the very first time. It was because of Johannes Gutenberg that he invented printing press which somehow justified or resolved the issues during the Reformation. As the Reformation was about the questioning of practices that was offensive to the Catholic Church. Print has brought a large impact to this time period as Johannes' invention of 'Printing Press'  allowed at least a thousand pages printed in a short time compared to the old method which only enabled about 40 to...

IX. The relationship of Media and Society.

Image
Hey there! How'r you doin'? So, in this blog entry.. we're going to be talking about two things; Media and Society. I've actually talked about Media in my very first blog entry right here .. but it was just a brief definition so this time, i will be going more in depth as it will be a part of my main subject of this entry. To recap, Media is the main means of mass communication or it is a platform where people are able to write or publish news, writings, photos or drawings. But, what is society? Society is the world surrounding us. It's the people that live their lives and are constantly moving, speaking, being productive and such. Well, at least that is how i see the society. According to the internet, Society is the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community. Now, how are these two things intertwined or connected? Society has its own specific groups that stick to a certain opinion or idea, this is called the Social Norm. How...
